2025 July

From May 23 to June 20 I drove around UT, WY, MT, OR, and CA trying to meet myself. It was a fun little quarter life crisis and I had some takeaways I wanted to write down.

Context: In March I quit my software engineering job to start my own thing. This led me to work with a cofounder on a project for a couple months. I left that in May for reasons unimportant to this essay. So at that point I found myself super unemployed, with no plan, and no idea what I wanted to do next. I decided to seek the mountains and solitude. They provided some much needed clarity…

Takeaway #1: I’ve rediscovered a state of consciousness that is independent of a sense of self that I will work to make my predominant state of consciousness. This one is hard to explain but the most important.

Takeaway #2: I’ve identified what I want to dedicate my career to. It is helping people live healthier, fitter, and happier lives through education, coaching, and technology. This is the current northstar of my career.

Takeaway #3: I’ve realized just how important my relationships are to me and I will continue to invest in them aggressively. I want to have outstanding relationships with my SO, family, friends, business partners, and community.

Takeaway #4: I’ve learned that the logical mind has limitations. For example, explain to me logically why the universe exists. When a logical explanation doesn’t exist, there can be benefits to entering the realm of narrative belief (see Religion).

Takeaway #5: Occasional periods of solitude = good
